A competition between the United States and Soviet Russia where each developed increasingly powerful and destructive weaponry, such as nuclear weapons, Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs), and Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRVs).
