Your assignment is to write a 800 word position piece addressing the theme: My Public Affairs Role in a Globalized World.
- Contemplate globalization.
- Contemplate Missouri State University's Public Affairs Mission.
- Based on your understanding of the first two concepts, what difference can you see yourself making in the world? What special opportunities and/or special challenges do you see - both for yourself personally and for the world as a whole?
- Link your position piece to your Wiki home page.
Assignment #4: due class time Monday, 21 April 2008
Your assignment is to write a 800 word position piece reflecting upon one of the presentations at the Missouri State University Public Affairs Conference.
- Select and attend one of the presentations, preferably one having some connection with a topic of global interest. A detailed schedule can be found here.
- Discuss how the presentation addresses globalization, global studies, and/or the topic of global interest addressed.
- Discuss how the presentation addresses the Public Affairs Mission of Missouri State University.
- My version of assignment will be posted to my blog at some point over the weekend.
Assignment #3: due class time Wednesday, 09 April 2008
Your assignment is to write a 600 word position piece addressing Thomas L. Friedman's view that the "flattening world" presents America and the world with more opportunities than it does dangers.
- Reread carefully "The Great Sorting Out" (pages 233-259).
- Identify and respond to at least two arguments Friedman makes in "America and the Flat World" (pages 263-403) that globalization ultimately benefits America and the world.
- You
may wish to consider some of the following points: Was David Ricardo, in fact, right that a rising tide floats all boats? Has everything which needs to be invented, in fact, already been invented? Is it shortsighted to be concerned primarily for America when, in fact, one ought to be concerned about the entire world.

Your assignment is to write a position piece on Climate Change.
- If you have not already done so, read The Environment and Globalization on our class website.
- Watch
at least two "pro" and two "con" Climate Change Vodcasts. You are
also more than encouraged to attend Focus The Nation events on January
30 and 31. If you can find them.
- Write a position piece, at least 1000 words in length, addressing how you perceive the problem of climate change.
- You
may wish to consider some of the following points: What is the proper
balance between environmental protection and economic development? What
is the proper role of the international community in determining and
enforcing this balance?

Your assignment is to create your own EefyWiki homepage. Here are the instructions.
- Log in. Your username is 09xxx, with xxx being your initials. Eefy J. Hughes's username is 09ejh. Your username also serves as your password, but you are advised to change that after your first login.
- Create
a new page. You will be asked to select a new name for your page: type
in your username. Then select the "Home Page Template" and hit "Save."
- Once
you have saved your new page, hit "Edit" and then fill out the personal
information. Don't be afraid to play around with the Wiki software. You
can always go back to the original version.
- Add your new homepage to the Homepage List.
