The Good and Bad Sides of Technology
As technology advances there are many affects that it has on humans. The majority of which are good, but there are many affects that are bad as well. However, technology is always going to be there, and as it advances, we need to find ways to improve the effects that we think are bad. Technology is making the world flat because there are no boundaries anymore. Distances that did take a lot of time to cover are now achieved without even having to leave your home.
Many of the advances that have been made by technology both enhance and harm modern human life at the same time. One of the major concerns with technology comes from employment. Technology advances have put people out of jobs at the same time as creating other jobs. While some jobs could be lost because there is simply just no use for them anymore, and others because there is now an ability hire workers overseas.
Technology has helped put businesses on a more global level. Exchanging goods and services has moved beyond what is local. There is now a global competition which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. More competition could make you work harder or it could put you out of business. Smaller businesses stand a bigger chance with the advance of technology. They can handle bigger work loads without having more employees, and they can be reached on a world wide level. Information can be exchanged much faster, increasing production levels for any sized business.
Another big concern about technology advances come from communication. The ability to communicate with anyone in the world is right at our fingertips at all times. You can keep in contact with friends who move continents away. When you are in a hurry, and can’t talk long, you can just send a text message instead of calling. However, with easier communication, this has lead to many aspects of the world (on business and personal level) lose their personal touch. Middle-man positions like sales people can be completely skipped by just a click of a button, and questions about goods and services can be answered on a FAQ page. So in a way, easier communication can also lead to less communication.
Now you can do virtually anything on the web, enroll in school, apply for a job, and go shopping for virtually anything that you want. The list could go on forever, but when is it too much though? People now never have to leave their homes. Technology has allowed people to become lazier with their lives. People rely on the internet for everything. After all, we would have had to write this essay in class with the standard pencil and paper, instead of the comfort of our own homes, if it weren’t for technology.
We are constantly changing, and updating our ways. As more technology innovations are made, more positive and negative aspects will be found. As humans though we will always look for ways to improve them, and what is going to be easier. Which is what I think the biggest problem is that comes from technology. The majority of people only want to do the bare minimums, what it takes to get by, what is easiest for them. I think that technology allows people to hold back on things that require more effort from them. We need to find a healthy balance between the good and the bad, use technology when it is necessary because we can benefit from it, not just because it is easier for us.
