Fort William Henry

Located on Lake St George.  William Henry fell to the French general Louis Joseph De Montcalm in 1757.  The garrison surrendered, but on its way back to Albany, the column was attacked and massacred by Huron and Ottowa Indians.  This battle served as the back drop for James Fenimore Cooper's masterpiece The Last of the Mohicans.
