MarxismWikipedia says:
"Marxism is the political philosophy and practice derived from the work of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Marxism holds at its core a critical analysis of capitalism and a theory of social change."
Details of Marxism:
- Social stratification is linked to the means of production
- Meaning:
- You either own the factories and make tons of money (BOURGEOISIE)
- You own the labor that manufactures the goods from the factories (PROLETARIAT)
- What this causes:
- The rich (minority) get richer
- The poor (majority) get poorer
- Alienation of the poor, giving the poor little to no control
- Eventually leading to:
- The working majority overthrow the bourgeois capitalist
- Capitalism brings about it's own downfall
- A SOCIALIST system replaces capitalism meeting the needs of everyone and not just the wealthy
What does Marxism have to do with Globalization?
Globalization allows for worldwide connectivity enhancing profit possibilities and surplus.
Globalization enables capitalist and bourgeois to accumulate wealth, resources, and power over the lower classes. I.E.- Supporting Marxist theory.
Scholte linked Marxism to Globalization just to tear down his own argument.:
"Likewise, it is too simplistic to explain globalization solely as a result of drives for surplus accumulation... People have not undertaken global communication and travel to feed surplus, but to explore identities and investigate meanings... People have not developed global weapons and pursued global military campaingns only for capitalist ends, but also due to inter-state competition, masculinist behavior, and militarist cultures that predate capitalism." |
