Nicholas I

Born June 1, 1796, Nicholas I served as tsar of Russia from 1825-1855.  He also served as king of Poland during this period.  Nicholas spent a great part of his reign trying to quell revolution, and was in the Crimean War against Great Britain and France when he died in 1855.  He was seceeded by Alexander II.
