Social WarsThe Social Wars came about as a result of the people under the Roman's dominion but considered non-citizens, mostly those in the area that Italy now occupies, getting tired of paying all the damn taxes and having no voting rights or property rights. They started an uprising against the Romans and this, understandably, had the Romans pretty pissed off so they launched a full out attack on the non-citizens. About this time Mithradates VI Eupator, the king of a small part of Asia Minor killed 80,000 Romans in one night. His whole goal was to make the Romans feel unsafe around him (terrorized) and his country so they would leave him alone and let him rule his part of the world. This didn't work because all those deaths pissed off the Romans so they (the Romans) quickly make peace with the "non-citizens" and gave them citizenship so they could gather all their men up and run off to fight Methradates. |
